My saving grace by Tanya

The beginning of the Wild Bunch – So I’m sure that you all probably wonder why we have 11 dogs, right??? Well believe it or not that is more the norm here in Alaska than not. The dog mushers up here are serious about their dogs and making sure they are trained in what is expected of them. However in this post I will start out telling you about how we started gathering our Wild Bunch.

To Begin

The beginning of the Wild Bunch

For me, (not a musher) 😂 it all started with this crazy girl. She’s the one in front on the left in the previous picture. When I first met this pretty girl I was so not interested. Can you believe that? Boy, was I an idiot! Her name is Sugar but normally we call her Sugar Sugar since if given the chance she will give nothing but sugars! 😁 Sugar was only about 8 months old them and she is now 14 years old. However she does have some spine issues but still is full of vim & vinegar. She likes to rule the roost and gives the rest of the crew heck while whipping her butt around while snarling and barking. They all seem to listen too! 😂😂

First litter

The beginning of the Wild Bunch – Sugar had a litter of 12 of which we kept Chancy, shortened from Last Chance because when he was born he almost didn’t make it. Sugar nudged him firmly against the wall and he started breathing. He is the one on the far left of the group picture. The other pup we kept was Pockets, who is the 4th from the left above. They both are my babies. I can snuggle with Chancy all night long but when I snuggle with Pockets on the other hand she leaves as soon as she thinks I’m asleep then she goes and lays somewhere else. She gets to hot lol. I was married then and we lived in a tiny house in a yucky part of town, but I bought my home for them and for the pups my Pockets girl was now going to have.

2nd litter

When Pockets gave birth to another 12 pups I laid on the floor with her all night. Unfortunately I did lose the first one which, actually, was a twin. However, the rest of them made it just fine. Through the next 6 weeks when I started getting ready for them to go to their forever homes I got down to the last 4. All of a sudden I was in tears just imagining having to give those last 4 up. I couldn’t do it! You guessed it! Now I had 4 more! Lol So from the left, 2nd in line in the back is Dottie, then Trouble, last in the back row is my little Chloe, and in the front next to Sugar is PW, (short for PeeWee)!
Dottie was born covered ( you guessed it!) dots! Trouble was originally named PJ for pockets junior since she looked so much like her momma. Bet you can’t guess why we changed her name? 😂😂😂 Yep because she’s always finding it!! Chloe and PW were the last 2 and I consider them both the runts seeing as how they are the smallest ones of the whole litter.

2nd litter continued

Dottie picked momma as her human as did Trouble. Trouble started having seizures so mom was babysitting her through my work week so she wouldn’t be home alone with just the rest of the pack. She really became close to mom then. Chloe being one of the smallest just stole my heart with her gray/blue color and her loving nature. She has the fastest tongue in the north I swear!! She even beats her grandma Sugar! PW just is so laid back and is a very sensitive soul.
They are my world. I would do anything I could for them!

So that starts the crew with the first 7 that started this whole crazy life of ours! That’s all for now, will give more of the story tomorrow but for blessings to you all and sweet dreams!
